An Urban Legend
When I was in college I used to do babysitting as my part-time job. This job was actually very profitable, I used to get money for just tucking in the children and the rest of the day I used to do whatever was there on my schedule. It was one of the winter mornings when I received a call from some parent. I won't disclose the name for their privacy issues. They wanted me to take care of two of their children and I was willing to do it, as it was my winter vacation and I had nothing to do. They said that they were going on some important work to a neighboring town for a night and they will be back by the next day in the morning. I was more than happy to serve them as they promised me a huge payment.
I reached their humongous mansion at 7 PM, the kids waved byes and exchanged hugs and kisses before their parents left town. After the children had their dinner they went straight into bed where I tucked them in and moved to their TV room. It was just not a TV room, it was a giant theatre with luxurious sofas in the middle of the room. The sofas were surrounded by beautiful artifacts. I made myself comfortable on the sofa and started watching a horror movie. It was basically based on a clown murderer and it was quite scary, but I was less spooked out considering it fiction, still, I felt really uncomfortable by a clown statue which was just adjacent to the screen. I went to the lobby which connected the children's room and the TV room to make a call to the children's parents. They took a while to pick up their phone but soon they did. I asked if I could cover the clown statue with a blanket because it was spookily disturbing as it looked very real, there was silence for a few seconds. "Take the kids and get out of the house now!! We don't have any clown statue.". My eyes widened as all my fear tingled down my spine. Just then I saw the clown standing right at the door of the TV room. His smile was wider than before. He still acted as if he was a statue. I froze there staring at the clown motionless, not able to move. I couldn't take my eyes off the clown as I was scared. But then I did the greatest mistake that I should have never done. I blinked. He was closer every time I blinked my eyes. I stared at him while I moved back towards the room where the kids were sleeping. I slammed the door and locked the room, I pulled the toy rack against the door and awakened the kids and told them to hide under the bed and stay quiet. There was a continuous banging on the door. After a few minutes, the banging stopped. All of a sudden the upper half of the door was blown into pieces and there was the clown staring at me with a hammer in his hand. He was not motionless this time, he looked angrier this time and was walking towards me. I walked backward and pulled out an umbrella from the basket. As he came closer I prepared myself to run behind him and get my phone so that I could contact emergency services. He was slow, he walked as if his legs were carrying weight but I didn't understand how was he so quick and sneaky when I blinked? I ran to my phone realizing there were two of them. One was big, quick and sneakier and other was comparatively bigger, heavier and stronger. I was blocked by the two clowns on either side of the lobby, I knew it was my end but I was lucky enough to survive that day. The police cars arrived as their sirens were clearly heard, both of the clowns ignored me and jumped out of the window in the kids' room. I informed the officers about the happening. The police tried to trace their footsteps but were unable to. I was terrified of this happening and left babysitting, both the children were safe and their parents were finally back after half an hour of the happening. I still freak out thinking about both the clowns I encountered. What if they are still out there as it was no more just a fiction. And now I have to live with it.
